Another day, another site design
31 May 04
My latest (and greatest?) site design is now online. Ortak Jewellery were the official jewellers to the Baftas this year, and one or two of you may have heard of them :-)
Site design, graphics and CSS by me, implementation by James and I, and database work by Sandy. All as part of our roles at Scotweb. Comments, suggestions and bug reports all welcome!

Breakfast, lunch and dinner...
26 May 04
…that’s how much web stuff I’m doing at the moment. Speaking of food…
I just finished an update to The Fish Restaurant for my longest lasting client. My thoughts went something like this:
- Why didn’t I use virtual includes when I built the original site?
- Why in God’s name did I use a table for layout?
- Goodness, this new Felix Da Housecat album (itms link) is really rather good.

Some of you may already read Penny Arcade (perhaps having followed the link in my sidebar), this strip is particularly for anyone that’s seen Troy already.
So true :-)

In response: 1. I’m number one. 2. Even the name of my site (which is only mentioned once) gets a higher ranking than you. 3. Your facts are incorrect. Your link goes straight to page 2 of google, where yes, your site appears… due to the presence of my screen name. However, the search actually returns my site in the number one slot.
I’m so the king of New York.
Or something…

Oh dear god, he just can’t leave it alone can he? James is at it again, this time with some lame-ass Mike Tyson impersonation. Well brother, you will not drag me into this bickering - you’re starting to sound like Eamon. Actually, that’s not a bad comparison… after all, I am still number one ;-)

Shreddies tries to make beef
21 May 04
Apparently my loser brother (yes, that is the ninth page), thinks its funny to steal my content, and then try to pass it off as his own. Its pretty pathetic really, he even went so far as to edit the date on the entry back to before my own…
I actually only decided to post this entry because I felt sorry for him… perhaps some of you kind people will drop by there, it might make him feel better if someone actually read his futile attempts to climb the Google rankings.

I’ve been meaning to post this for a wee while. From the Metro:
AMERICA: A barge capsized when all 60 passengers rushed to one side hoping to catch a a glimpse of nude sunbathers.
The double-decker boat, which was being rented out for a party, promptly sank. The accident happened during splash day - a ‘clothing optional’ beach event, hosted by a gay and lesbian association, on the shores of Lake Travis near Austin, Texas. Two partygoers were slightly hurt.
Is it awful to laugh?

Scottish Arts Club
19 May 04
Just finished re-implementing the Scottish Arts Club website as XHTML strict. Incredible that a job which took me days and weeks to complete a couple of years ago, I just completed start to finish in about 3 or 4 hours. As if I didn’t already know this, but I am so never using frames again as long as I live!
I urge you lovely people to do the same.

More guff about the site
18 May 04
In regards to comment spam (which I take as a measure of my increasing popularity by the way) I was thinking about installing MT version 3, which includes a comment registration feature… Looks like you might have to get used to it anyway, because one Typekey account will be good for all MT blogs apparently.
What do people think about this? Should I install it, or will you just do your usual and complain a lot?

James Turnbull is now writing a blog. Even though he says he isn’t. Copycat. He’s so not my brother anymore.
May 2004
Apparently adding comments to the site has had some benefits after all… despite the constant moaning from you lot! A couple of weeks ago I was a non-entity on Google, but check me out now!
I think I’m getting spidered a lot more often too, must check the logs one of these days. (Along with 4 bazillion other things I should be doing…)

My cousin Polly now has her own blog! I bet it’s way more interesting than mine…
May 2004
Ahhh :-) My first comments spam! Does anyone know how to prevent this with MT?

I put up a basic Markdown syntax guide on the comments pages. Hope you find it useful :-)

…new picture. I took this month’s photo while I was in London recently, during my visit to the Vivienne Westwood exhibition at the V&A.
The thing is, there I was in a fantastic exhibition full of important stuff (well, important if you’re even slightly interested in fashion, music, culture or anything at all), and all I could think was “Look! I work for a company that buys tartan from the same company as her!”. So geeky I know…
Speaking of geeky, the V&A logo is one of my favourite ever pieces of typography, done by the late Herb Lubalin. Can anyone find an image of his ‘Mother & Child’ logo anywhere on the web?

Shreddies is at it again! Does that boy never settle on a design (or indeed finish one? ;-)

Evil design thieves ahoy! Zeldman’s stolen my design, don’t you think?
